Keep Your Kids Safe With 360 SportScapes

Keep Your Kids Safe With 360 SportScapes
In our last blog we discussed the benefits of having a backyard sports court in regards to your health. If you happened to miss that click here:
Today we are going to discuss how having a 360 Sports Court in your home or yard increases the safety for your kids. So Mom’s… listen up!

Imagine its a warm Saturday evening in the summer. You have cleaned up dinner and the kids disappeared an hour ago to go play with their friends after dinner. Your oldest idolizes the Celtics and your youngest idolizes the oldest so you know they are off with their friends playing a game of H.O.R.S.E. with Johnny down the street. It’s getting darker and darker outside and you feel the first twinge of worry. Your partner calms you down. An hour passes. No kids have come tumbling into the house. Another hour.
Now you are in a full blown panic. Every parent knows the feeling. That heart dropping to the floor feeling when your kids don’t come home when they’re supposed to or when one of your kid’s friends comes running in to tell you they are hurt and you have to run to the park dreading the worst.

Now imagine that same warm Saturday evening in the summer. Dinner is done and the kids disappeared an hour ago to go play with their friends. You check the time because it’s starting to get dark. You look outside and there they are, dribbling the ball. Your oldest teaching your youngest how to do a layup on your backyard basketball court.

Raising kids in this day and age is not easy. A parent has to battle with their children with too much screen time and yet balancing that with not feeling secure that you don’t know where your children are, because apparently it’s not “cool” to text your parents every hour. At 360 SportScapes it is our goal to get the kids off the tablet, get outside and get moving all while helping their parents feel confident that their children are safe.

We don’t need to list out statistics about your children’s safety when it comes to strangers, just tune in to your favorite true crime podcast. We won’t dive into it but about 2,100 missing children reports are filed every day in the U.S. and no parent needs to go through the living nightmare of not knowing where their children are. Instead of your kids riding their bikes down to the park we recommend installing a (mini) soccer field made of highly durable and low maintenance artificial turf in your backyard. Or maybe your children love to ice skate, we can help with that too.

With your 360 SportScape you not only will have your children playing safely in your own backyard but you will also be available should any sports related injury occur.  Decrease the chances of sports related injuries by taking the hoop out of your cement driveway and installing your own backyard basketball court. 360 SportScape’s tiles are shock absorbent and gentler on falls than asphalt and concrete. Our backyard courts are made to be comfortable on joints and reduce the impact of falls.

More than 170,000 children ages 5 to 14 were treated in hospital emergency rooms for basketball-related injuries, 88,000 children were treated for soccer related injuries and 110,000 children were treated for softball and baseball injuries. Should an injury occur you can rest assured that you are available to your child as soon as possible when they are playing sports at your residence.
We are parents too, which is why it is so important to us to protect future generations while still allowing them to participate in the sports they love. Our dream is for parents to rest comfortably at night knowing their children are safe in their own backyard while also participating in the sports they love. At 360 SportScapes we build our multi-sports courts with the family in mind. We don’t want to just morph your landscape, we want to help you build a community focused on health, safety, and security.

How Having A Backyard Sports Court Can Improve Your Health

It’s no secret that we are big sports and exercise enthusiasts. We love a good neighborhood game of pick- up or H.O.R.S.E., but our love goes deeper than just the game. Playing a quick game in the backyard with your friends isn’t just fun, but it also is keeping you and your family healthy. Whether your sport is tennis, golf, pickleball, hockey or basketball playing for just 30-60 minutes is improving every aspect of your life.

Backyard Athletic Courts Can Help Increase Physical Activity

Obesity is a known epidemic in our country but you may not know that physically active children are 1/10 as likely to be obese. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children are 40% more likely to score higher on their test scores, 15% more likely to go to college, make 7-8% higher annual funds, have lower health costs, and are at reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Children are spending more time in front of their phones than they are outside playing with their friends and this is causing a nationwide health crisis. At 360 SportScapes we believe in giving everyone an outlet to make them happier and healthier. Backyard basketball courts and batting cages are ideal ways to get your kids out of the house and get them exercising! Pickleball and putting greens are a great activity if running and jumping are not comfortable for you anymore.

360 Sports Courts Are Gentle On Joints

Studies show that less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Having the convenience of a sports court in or near your home can help you stay active and healthy. All our courts are made with your safety, comfort, and playability in mind. Research shows that the shock absorbing tiles of a 360 Sports Court are significantly less damaging than cement. Jumping, running and falling are all apart of any good basketball game and our courts protect against concussions and other serious injuries. Our tennis courts and pickleball courts are made with the same shock-absorbant floor, so no matter what age you are, you can play a stress free game.

So get out, get moving and have fun! Whether you are 3 or 90 or any age in between, having a basketball court, tennis court, batting cage, or putting green in your home or business will help you play safely and comfortably.

Designing A Backyard Basketball Court

If you have been following our recent blog posts, you know that there are a variety of benefits of installing a backyard basketball court. From pick-up games to endless matches of P.I.G., a backyard basketball court has a certain appeal that brings families and people of all ages together to bask in the sunshine and shoot some hoops.

If you are considering backyard basketball court installation, there is a lot that goes into the process. To make basketball court installation stress-free, it’s better to hire an experienced sports court contractor rather than attempting to build a D.I.Y. backyard basketball court. When you work with a sports court contractor, you will not only be left with a high-quality backyard basketball court, but you will also have the ability to design your court to fit your needs and specifications and add any features and accessories to make your court your own.

Steps For Designing The Best Backyard Basketball Court

At 360 Sports and SynGrass, we have years of experience helping homeowners with the design and installation of backyard basketball courts. Our team of sports court contractors work closely with our clients to provide them with a custom basketball court that fits their needs, specifications, and budget. As you prepare for basketball court installation, consider the steps to design the perfect court for you and your family:

Select A Size For Your Backyard Basketball Court

Depending on the available space you have in your yard, you will need to choose a basketball court that fits within the available space. For reference, a regulation NBA court is 50 feet by 94 feet. Most properties are not spacious enough for a court of these dimensions, so it is important to find court size appropriate for your space. Here are some court sizes that may be more suitable for your yard:

Full Court

Full courts don’t have to be NBA sized, so if you’re looking for some baseline to baseline action, a full-sized backyard basketball court is possible as long as your yard has enough space. Full courts allow for real play but also two separate hoops for children and teenagers/adults to play separately if needed.

Narrow Full Court

If you want the authentic feel a full-court provides but don’t have as much space to use, a narrow full court will do the trick. Typically, narrow full basketball courts are shorter in the middle and the sides of the court.

Half Court

If your yard doesn’t allow for a full basketball court, a half-court is the next best thing. Compared to full courts, they require less space, digging, surfacing, and one less basketball hoop. You can still play pick-up games and practice draining your three-pointers.

Narrow Half Court

As the name suggests, these courts are a bit narrower than a regular half court, but still have the core dimension of the ‘key’ and ‘paint’ areas, just a little shorter sizing to the half-court line and sidelines. If you have a smaller yard space, these are ideal.

Choose A Color Scheme For Your Court

The best thing about a custom basketball court? You can choose any colors you want! The colors from the court can be anything you want, from your family’s favorite colors to the colors of your favorite college or professional sports team. Are you a die-hard Celtics fan? Create a backyard basketball court in green, white, and black colors.

When designing your backyard basketball court, you will have the ability to choose the color of the main court, the lane, and the border. You can choose to match your court colors to your house, blend into the background landscape, or really go for that “WOW” factor.

Select Any Optional Accessories For Your Court

In addition to adding the appropriate number of basketball hoops (which depends on whether you have a full or half-sized court) there are numerous other accessories and features that can be added to your backyard sports court. Some other accessories you may be interested in adding to your backyard sports court may include:

  • Rebounders. Rebounders are a multi-functional training aid which allows the athletes with a realistic ball response and gives them the ability to work on passing and catching and shooting skills. Rebounders can also be used for other sports like tennis, volleyball, hockey, and soccer.
  • Ball Containment Fencing. Rather than having to chase balls that have flown off the court, placing fencing around the court will help keep the ball contained within the court space. Fencing is far more appealing than having netting around your court, plus it is more durable.
  • Lights. Remember when you were playing basketball outside as a kid, only to have the fun stopped once the sun went down? By adding basketball court lights, you can continue to use your court and play well into the evening and night.=
  • Multi-Court Attachments. If you plan on using your backyard sports court for multiple sports, there are a variety of attachments available to accommodate different sports. From hockey goals to tennis and volleyball nets, you can make your court adaptable to a variety of sports.

Reasons To Consider Backyard Basketball Court Installation This Summer

If you consider your family a basketball family, you may have considered installing a backyard basketball court. Backyard basketball court installation would not only create a space for your children to practice their dribbling, shooting, and passing skills and prepare them for the upcoming season during the school year, but it also creates a space for family-fun games and activities, and if you’ve played basketball, you know how much of a workout it can be — think of it as a new exercise to add to your routine! No doubt, a basketball court installation would bring the family together while encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles.

The Benefits of Having a Basketball Basketball Court

The summer season is the perfect time for basketball court installation. Whether you are interested in a half-court basketball court or multi-use sport court construction in your backyard, both offer incredible benefits that are often overlooked. If you need help convincing your significant other to let you install a backyard basketball court for you and your family, consider the following benefits of basketball court installation.

Encourages A Healthy Lifestyle For The Whole Family

Between the television, video games, and social media, it can be difficult to convince children to go outside and play these days. However, basketball is just one of those sports that seems to pull kids away from the electronics and out into the fresh air. Installing a backyard basketball court will certainly help keep the whole family active. While it depends on the person as well as the intensity, it is estimated that shooting hoops alone can burn around 300 calories an hour. Playing a half court game can burn around 550 calories in an hour, and stepping up to a full court game will burn around 740 calories an hour — not bad considering it is a fun sport!

Development of Important Skills

Practice makes perfect and having a backyard basketball court will let you and your family work on important skills and fundamentals, whether just for fun or for preparation of team try-outs during the upcoming school year. From left-handed layups to free throws, a backyard basketball court will make it easier for you and your family to develop and master ball handling, shooting, and passing skills.

Backyard Basketball Courts Are Versatile

Naturally, backyard basketball courts are used for, well, basketball. However, that is not the only sport or activity these sport courts are limited to. With the right court surfacing, your backyard sport court can be used for volleyball, badminton, and many other family-fun activities. Installing outdoor basketball court surfaces will teach kids how to work together as a team in many different sports, how to make new friends and improve their interpersonal skills, and how to play at a competitive level.

Increases The Value Of Your Home

While it certainly would be hard to leave a backyard basketball court behind, opportunities appear and require moving. While the cost of backyard basketball court installation can be expensive depending on the design and features implemented, it is a great investment for not only your family, but your property as well. When the time comes to sell your home, a backyard basketball court will make your listing stand out from the rest, potentially attracting families or more serious players that would benefit from it.

Enhances Your Backyard & Landscape

When working with a professional sport court contractors, your backyard basketball court can be designed to fit your lifestyle and enhance your yard’s landscaping by choosing the right colors and design features. Want to take it one step further? Add a custom logo from your favorite college or professional sports teams. For a finished look, artificial grass can be added around the court to achieve a more low-maintenance backyard. Another benefit is that, in addition to not having to mow as much grass, a backyard basketball court is easy to maintain and keep clean. Therefore, you won’t have nearly as much yard maintenance and landscaping work to do!

Benefits of Using Artificial Turf For Play Areas

The way kids have fun these days is much more different than it used to be. Back in the day, children would have fun by going outside and playing for most of the day. The only bad thing was when the street lights turned on, meaning it was time to go inside for the night. Today, though, fun for kids typically involves televisions, gaming devices, and other electronics.

Fortunately, all hope is not lost. If you want to get your children spending more time outside, one good way to do so is to invest in a backyard play area. Slides, swings, monkey bars, and other play areas will be sure to keep your kids busy during the warmer months. However, choosing the right surface for a playground is imperative in creating a safe and appealing space. While wood chips as well as gravel surfaces are used for playground surfaces, they are not really safe for preventing cuts, scrapes, and other injuries when children fall on them.

Benefits of Using Artificial Turf For Play Areas

That’s why we always recommend installing artificial turf for play areas. More and more parents are choosing to install artificial turf in their children’s play area because of the benefits derived from them. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits artificial turf offers for children’s play areas.

1. Safety

Most playgrounds will have wood chip, stone, or concrete surfaces, all of which can cause some scrapes and cuts after a fall. Artificial turf can make the surfaces of playgrounds much safer due to its soft padding and infill. The soft, synthetic grass will be just as soft as natural grass, therefore children are less likely to experience cuts, scrapes, or broken bones.

2. Cleaner

There’s nothing worse than having your kids track in dirt, mud, and other debris into your clean home after playing. With artificial grass, children are able to freely play without having to worry about getting covered in dirt, mud, and grass. Not to mention, you won’t have to worry about grass stains and dirt stains on clothing nearly as much! Should there ever be a mess on your artificial play area, don’t worry, clean-up is a breeze!

3. Low Maintenance

The amount of foot traffic in a play area can cause some wear and tear on the surface over time. Natural grass requires mowing, fertilization, and seeding to keep its lush and green look, and gravel and wood chips eventually get carried or blown away, leading to a regular need for refills. Pour-in-place surfaces such as concrete, while they may last longer than natural grass, will likely still require replacement after a few years, and any repairs done in between are noticeable. Artificial turf, on the other hand, can last up to five years, and any repairs are naturally blended in so they do not flaw the appearance of the playground. It also requires virtually no maintenance other than a quick spray with water to remove dirt.

4. Eco-Friendly

Replacing natural grass with synthetic grass can help you improve the green factor of your backyard playground. Because it requires little maintenance, artificial grass cuts down on the use of resources. It will always look green and healthy and you don’t even need to use water to irrigate the grass. Plus, since you don’t have to mow or trim the grass, gas is not required for upkeep. And lastly, with artificial turf, there is no need for all of those chemical fertilizers and weed killers that would otherwise go into the environment.

5. Drainage

Artificial playground surfaces let water and other liquids drain away quickly to keep the play area dry and free of puddles. This feature can be very beneficial, especially when wet, muddy conditions might keep kids from playing outside. Replacing natural grass or an existing play surface with artificial turf means the kids can go outside shortly after it rains without getting soaked or covered in mud!

Artificial turf for playground areas provides a safe ground cover. It makes the play area safer for all children, provides a cleaner environment, has excellent drainage, and requires very little maintenance. If you’re ready to install an artificial playground area in your backyard, or have another use for synthetic grass, contact 360 Sports and Syngrass. We have everything you need! 360 synthetic playground turf is specially designed from the ground up for safety and is one of the safest play surfaces available.

How Artificial Turf Helps With Allergies

Certain seasons of the year, typically lovely seasons, are made much less lovely because of allergens associated with them. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 20 million people experience grass allergies from continuous exposure to allergens. Grass allergies can occur in different forms — from skin irritation to nasal issues to asthma attacks.

360 Sports & Syngrass provides a variety of synthetic landscaping and sports surfacing services across New England and Southwest Florida. One such service is the installation of an artificial turf.

This blog entry highlights the connection between artificial turf and reduced allergic reactions.

What are allergies?

artificial turf and reduced allergic reactionsAllergies, or allergic reactions, are what occur after your body has been exposed to an allergen. Allergic reactions are hypersensitive reactions of the body and when the body encounters certain materials, it reacts to them. The allergens that can result in allergic reactions vary and depend on several factors, and because allergic reactions are spontaneous in an encounter with the trigger, it is important to prevent such triggers. Across the world, allergies are major health concerns, and millions suffer from different forms of allergic reactions – from mild to those that can be life-threatening. Depending on one’s immune system, a lot of things can become allergies, but the allergens that cause the most common types of allergic reactions include pollen and dust.

How allergic reactions occur

When the body is exposed to a substance that spurs an allergic reaction, in most cases, it doesn’t react immediately. This is because the body builds up sensitivity to that material before it eventually reacts. The period of building sensitivity to an allergen differs. This period differs according to the immune system and may take years. Sometimes, the process of building up sensitivity to an allergen is never completed, and such people never experience full allergic reactions. Allergies could also be seasonal, depending on whether the allergens are associated with specific seasons.

Immunoglobulin E are “antibodies produced by the immune system. If you have an allergy, your immune system overreacts to an allergen by producing antibodies called Immunoglobulin E. These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction.” Allergic reactions occur in different tissues and systems, and can manifest in different ways.

Symptoms of allergic reactions

In the skin, for example, allergic reactions could manifest through itching, peeling, rashes, and flaking. In the nasopharyngeal system, for allergens that are inhaled, the forms of manifestation include a blocked nasal cavity, runny nose, and swollen eyes. Allergic reactions can also occur when one is stung by certain insects, and such allergic reactions manifest in the form of coughs, dizziness, swelling, and other symptoms. The milder symptoms typically stop after a short period of time.

There are different ways of managing allergic reactions. The most effective way of avoiding allergic reactions is avoiding the trigger, but if it’s too late for that, medications exist. These medications mitigate the way the body reacts on exposure to allergens. Nasal steroids, for example, reduce nasal congestion. Immunotherapy, the prevention or treatment of disease with substances that stimulate the immune response, is another way of managing allergies.

How artificial turf helps to manage allergies

artificial turf helps to manage allergiesAs established earlier, the best way to prevent an allergy is to stay away from the allergen altogether. However, there are circumstances that are beyond one’s control, and it is essential to implement ways of reducing exposure to allergens. Natural grass is associated with several allergies and people continually exposed to natural grass are at a risk of becoming exposed to the allergens associated with such grass.

Artificial turf is a fantastic way of reducing your level of exposure to allergens. Artificial grass does not hold onto pollen as natural grass does, so it’s clear why that would reduce one’s allergies.

Apart from humans, an artificial turf also protects pets from allergic reactions. Pets love to play in grass and they also develop allergies from pollen and other allergens. With artificial turf, just as with humans, this level of exposure to allergens is significantly reduced.

If you’re sick of allergies, it’s time to call 360 Sports & Syngrass today!

On Newer Developments for Synthetic and Artificial Turf

When most people think about artificial turf, they usually think about old-style turf often used on athletic fields, which never looked or felt like real grass. Modern synthetic grass options now both look and feel like natural grass, with the advantages of not needing water and only needing minimal maintenance — while still looking beautiful and natural.

Modern synthetic grass is more environmentally friendly than ever, not just because of the ability to conserve water, but because modern technology has allowed us to make a more environmentally-friendly product that doesn’t emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or toxic chemicals. One of the coolest innovations with modern synthetic turf is you can now design your play surface using a variety of colors and options.

synthetic grass

This means you can have the field of your dreams without having to worry about the regular maintenance and repairs that are necessary with natural sod and grass. We can ensure you not only have the right kind of synthetic turf for your needs, but that it’s installed correctly — thereby eliminating drainage or flooding problems that can occur when artificial turf is not properly installed. Our professionals will make sure you order the correct amount of materials the first time, so your turf can be installed on time with no budgeting surprises.

Some pet owners have traditionally stayed away from synthetic grass because older artificial grass applications trapped pet waste, causing odors and staining of the turf. Newer synthetic installations use a specially designed backing to allow for pet waste to disperse and, when combined with proper installation techniques, allow for drainage and waste neutralization.

All you need to do is pick up solid pet waste and hose down your turf on a regular basis and that is it. You don’t have to worry about brown spots or the erosion of high traffic areas, and you also don’t have to worry about pesticides and pest control that can be harmful to your furry family members. This makes artificial turf ideal for your beloved pets.

The newest artificial grass options can also provide erosion control, which is important in sensitive areas and can help you to create a natural look, even in areas where it is difficult to maintain a natural lawn. Because of the ability to add superior drainage options under an artificial surface, which you would not be able to do under natural grass, you can solve flooding and drainage issues in problem areas where it has been traditionally difficult to grow or maintain grass. A synthetic lawn or sports playing surface can be the ultimate solution in areas where, due to droughts or flooding conditions, natural grass is not practical.

Moreover, mixing synthetic grass with natural landscaping gives you more options than ever before — allowing you to add shade through trees and other plants, and still reduce the amount of maintenance required. With a quality synthetic lawn, it is almost impossible to tell that the lawn is not natural until you touch it. Due to watering and environmental concerns, more HOAs are allowing synthetic lawns. If your HOA (homeowner association) has rules against a synthetic lawn installment, we can provide you with information and pictures of recent applications installed by 360 Sports Systems, and in many cases, HOAs will change their rules once you demonstrate that your lawn will meet all of the same aesthetics as a natural lawn.

You can also, easily and quickly, cool artificial turf down by watering it and installing shade over play areas and other areas where you want to control the temperature of your synthetic lawn.

Though you can head over to your local do-it-yourself store to purchase synthetic grass, often these stores do not carry the higher quality options that look the most natural and are designed for pets and other specialty applications. To get the best looking artificial lawn, a professional install will make all of the difference. Incorrectly installed synthetic lawns can have issues with drainage, slime, and mold. As such, these installations often do not last as long as a professional installation, requiring you to replace the turf long before you should have to. In the short term, doing it yourself might save you some money, but in the long term you will absolutely see savings with a professional job.

360 Sports Systems can take care of the planning, measuring, and installation for your synthetic needs. We will help you with every step of the process and even provide you with samples, so you can see and feel the texture. We will show you all of our options and customize it to your desires and we will make sure the right drainage is appropriate for your specific needs, so you never have a mushy, moldy, or slimy lawn.

At 360 Sports Systems, we will help you find the right synthetic grass that will give you both the function and look you want. Let’s chat today!

Summer is coming and backyards should be renovated to enjoy it to the maximum. The planning stage of your backyard renovation with 360 Sports is extremely important. It sets the foundation for the work that’s to follow. Without a proper plan in place and the details hammered out, a complete backyard renovation is more than likely to hit a few bumps in the road. Everything from your budget to the best time of year to renovate needs to be taken into consideration for your backyard overhaul to be a success.

When planning a backyard renovation with 360 Sports you should do the following:

  • Create Your Budget:

You should know how much money you are willing to spend on your backyard renovation. If you’re worried you won’t be able to afford the renovation you’ve been dreaming about, put it off until you’re sure you can afford what you want. Settling for a renovation you are not going to be 100% happy with will end up costing when you have to renovate again. Once you’ve established a limit as to how much you’d like to spend, start planning!

  • Research:

After being sure of your budget, the next step is to do research. Dig around the internet for ideas and helpful tips. The internet is worldwide of course. Zero in on renovations that are appropriate for our climate. Have there been any recent backyard renovations in your neighborhood? In the case of the latter, you can even ask if you can come over and see the new renovation for yourself.

  • Consider your lifestyle:

Before you start the renovation proper, you should think about the kind of lifestyle you have at your home. Look at your front and back yard and think about what you and your family typically enjoy doing in those spaces. Do you like to throw summer parties in the backyard? Consider things like where your barbeque is located, or where you usually entertain your guests, and how many people you want to host. Combinations of turf, plantings and patio areas all go into the planning. Do your kids like to play in the back yard? Plan a garden that’s not going to get in their way.

Follow this advice and you’ll feel a lot less intimidated when it comes time to plan your next backyard renovation. And remember, if you are ever unsure of anything, contacting a professional at 360 Sports is always your best lifeline. Meanwhile, below is a list of 10 amazing things you can do in your backyard when summer comes rolling:
